Emily recently completed her third of five years at the University of Notre Dame where she studies Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design in the Reilly Dual Degree Program. Originally from Rochester, NY, in the classroom Emily has received extensive hands-on experience in a wide range of topics including instrumentation, testing, rapid visualization, and fabrication. Her two areas of study provide a unique perspective on the design and innovation process.
During her time at Notre Dame, Emily has completed two semesters of research in the bioengineering field, specifically focusing on bone adaptation due to mechanical loading. This research provided the opportunity to focus on design and fabrication of research elements. Over her two semesters of research Emily designed two testing apparatus, beginning in the conceptualization stage all the way through fabrication and implementation. This included modeling in Auto-CAD, creation of technical documents, and creation in the student fabrication lab. Her passion for learning also extends outside the classroom as she has worked as a teacher’s assistant in both Mechanics II: Dynamics and Intro to Electrical Engineering. Emily is also heavily involved in service work through the Notre Dame Center for Social Concerns. She also leads the Notre Dame Women’s Boxing Team as a senior captain and the 2021 Vice President.
